This little girl was in the San Bernardino shelter in the pouring rain in November 2009. She was wearing a collar with no identification tags, had no microchip and no owners came to claim her. She sat in a kennel for about a week, completely emaciated sleeping with a kennelmate that had pneumonia. Little did we know when we took her from there on Friday, November 13th, that she was extremely ill and didn’t have a lot pointing in her favor. She contracted pneumonia from her kennelmate and her first night home with us, she stopped breathing. We took her to the vet where she was hospitalized. A week of sleeping in the hospital with x-rays, IVs / constant fluids, and a small fortune later, she seemed to be doing well!

Star is a very unique little girl. For a Boston Terrier, she is extremely tiny- currently weighing only 13 lbs! Star is extremely gentle and loyal. She has two different colored eyes, one blue and one brown and she is an almost pure white Boston Terrier— With the exception of a brown spot on her ear and another on the top of her head… She has zero black! Which we have not found any others like her! She is termed as Albino, so she has sensitivity to extreme sunlight. When going outside, she needs a few minutes to gratdually make her way to full sun. Once her eyes have adjusted, she absolutely LOVES to bask in the sun!

Based on her mannerisms and vet check, we believe she was severely abused. She is absolutely terrified of the vacuum. She will panic if she is in a confined space (ie: a crate) and we believe that’s where she spent the majority of her time prior to coming to stay with us... Star does not show that she is feeling any pain… One day, she got under our feet and was accidentally stepped on but she didn’t move or make a sound-- which leads us to believe that she has learned to tune it out and not “feel” anything.. The vet said that her blue eye has a chemical burn on it. How someone could hurt her, is beyond us—she’s so sweet! We had an eye test done, and we were told that she can see out of this eye but it’s like looking out of a foggy window.  Her brown eye has perfect vision!

She is a lovebug...and wants to totally be with her human...  She loves to sit on your lap while you are working on the computer and in no time, she will be sunggled up, asleep.... SNORING!  When she can't have your attention, she'll let you know that she wants it anyway, by giving you a nudge or crawling onto your lap and planting herself. If you attempt to move her, she will grunt and complain and in no time at all have worked herself back onto your lap!  She is good with other dogs and when she came to us, she was a little shy and reserved; she didn’t give any kisses and was extremely frightened.  Now, she snuggles and will give you kisses if you’ll let her!  Star likes to be close, and she rides excellent in the car. She will usually sleep, so she’d be a great travel companion and if she is not sleeping, she is watching her “sister” look out the window and she copies..

Since she cannot hear; she will sit, look at other dogs and observe their mannerisms. If the other dog is barking, she will attempt to let out a bark, but usually she just sits there very alert staring at her canine companion.  It is very infrequent that she will attempt to bark—and with her being fully deaf, her barks sure sound funny!

She needs to have human interaction and does NOT like being left alone for very long because she has extreme separation anxiety- She thinks you will never come back for her! Access to the outdoors is a must, as she does well when she is left in a secure yard (with her playmate, of course).  She does know how to use a doggy door and will go through the door with zero hesitation. However, she cannot be apartment or condo trained.

We have been working on teaching her sign language, and we have found that its most effective to point at her as she knows that this means she is “bad”, and she knows that when you wave, you will be leaving her. Her ears perk up in acknowledgement and she looks at you with sad eyes begging you to take her with you..

Back in February 2010, she ate my Valentines chocolate that her sister managed to get off the coffee table, and since she doesn’t have many teeth, she swallowed the chocolate AND foil wrapper whole. So back to the hospital she went. They administered charcoal and she eventually threw up the entire box of chocolate AND foil wrappers! Fortunately, she was a-ok!

She has eaten Innovaflex since 11/09, which is a premium dog food with no byproducts.  She needs to have mixture of wet and dry food on a daily basis. The kibble must be the size for a puppy or small dog as she lacks teeth to chew full sized kibble and she will swallow it whole which we are trying to avoid with her recent surgery involving her intestines.

Due to her last owner’s negligence, she was bread. On May 17, 2010 we took Star in to be spayed. We felt that it was time as she seemed to be healthy enough to go under anesthetics with no complications.  Once she was opened up, the vet noticed that she must have had a miscarriage quite a while ago (before we adopted her in November 2009!) where for some reason, the fetus was not expelled from the body.  Her liver, intestines and uterus were all fused together and had to undergo surgery to separate them. Pre-surgery, she slept 20+ hours per day. She had little to no energy and the vet strongly feels that this was because of her fused organs and un-expelled miscarriage. Since her surgery we have noticed an extreme increase in energy.. She is more alert now, then she has ever been!   Star also had a umbilical hernia which we had removed on May 17, 2010.

So far, Star seems to be good with everyone, including kids!  She is not interested in toys, and just wants you!  She wants love and attention...a lot of both!  Star is a little cuddle bunny!! She will sleep so close to you that she pushes on you throughout the night, pushing you off the other end of the bed!   She is not at all an aggressive dog and has lived in a home with ever-changing foster dogs, and got along with no problems. She doesn’t extremely like large dogs unless they have given her a chance to check them out first! She is babysat by my Mom when I am working, who has a 120 l.b. black lab and they do wonderful together!  She gets extremely confused on how to act, so she learns from the other dogs she is around.  With her exposure to my male foster dogs, she has observed how to hike her leg and will attempt to do this periodically while on a walk, completing the action by kicking up the grass and running to you to pet her with enthusiasm for doing such a good job!

This little lady deserves a wonderful home with humans that will understand what she has been through, and will love her with all their hearts.  She could not be sweeter if she tried....she is great with everyone; very submissive and laid back.   She could almost go into any home....she is good with other dogs, good with people....loves to give kisses...but we would not want her to be left alone all day.  The ideal home for her would be one where her human either works at home or can take her with them....as her first love is her person.

Star has been fixed, micro-chipped, is up to date on shots, she does great on walks; and is extremely good on a leash! She has the cutest little wiggle... which she will great you with to say good morning, or when you return home to her!  She has not been a real active dog, but we think this relates to her previous medical issues which we believe are all worked out now. She would be wonderful in a mature home, or with a family that will understand her needs and that can cuddle her and love her to life!!   This little girl is a love and deserves a better home than the one she was in, that's for sure!  She is looking for her forever-home, where her humans will love her and keep her for the rest of her life!  She is sweet as she is cute....and would love to be your best friend!!  Could that be you?
